Montpellier HSC winger Tanguy Coulibaly has been handed a two-game suspension following a controversial moment in his team’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Lille OSC.
The 21-year-old sparked chaos when he kicked a ball at Lille head coach Bruno Génésio, who reacted by storming onto the pitch and briefly chasing Coulibaly.
The incident escalated as Lille’s bench emptied onto the field to restrain Génésio. However, Lille wing-back Mitchel Bakker, who was among the substitutes, confronted Coulibaly directly, leading to both players receiving red cards. Bakker has been issued a one-game suspension by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) disciplinary committee, while Coulibaly faces a harsher two-match ban for his conduct.
Adding to the tensions, Montpellier head coach Jean-Louis Gasset was also ejected during the match after expressing his frustration with the officiating. He has received a one-game touchline ban.
Coulibaly, who holds French, Ivorian, and Malian nationalities, is no stranger to the spotlight. In 2019, he represented Mali in the FIFA U-20 World Cup
