Al Hilal clinches Omar Al Mukhtar championship in dramatic penalty shootout victory
Al Hilal Football Club emerged victorious in the Omar Al Mukhtar Championship, securing the title after a tense penalty shootout against Al-Suwaihli.
The thrilling final, held on Sunday, ended in a 2-2 draw during regular time, forcing the game into penalties, where Al Hilal triumphed 4-2.
The Omar Al Mukhtar Championship, held in Benghazi, served as a preparatory tournament for the upcoming Libyan Premier League season, set to kick off on 25 November.
The competition featured several of Libya’s top clubs, including Al-Ahly Benghazi, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nasr, Olympic, Al-Hilal, Al-Suwaihli, Al-Tahadi, and Al-Sadaqa, giving fans a glimpse of the intense competition expected in the coming league season.
To support teams in strengthening their squads, the Libyan Football Federation extended the registration period for players.
This decision allows clubs more time to bolster their lineups ahead of the Libyan Premier League, encouraging a higher level of play as teams finalize their rosters.
With Al Hilal’s recent victory in the Omar Al Mukhtar Championship, the club enters the upcoming season with renewed momentum, raising hopes among fans for continued success in the league.
