Zamalek reach CAF Champions League group stage as Adam Kaied completes extra fitness work
Zamalek secured their place in the CAF Champions League group stage after a 1-0 victory over the Rwandan Army in the second leg of their round-of-32 tie, while Adam Kaied followed the match with an individual fitness session at Cairo International Stadium.
Kaied, who plays for Zamalek, was put through a separate physical programme by fitness coach Nuno Costa after the final whistle. The work was arranged by the coaching staff, led by Moataz Gamal, as part of the player’s scheduled conditioning plan.
The additional training is intended to prepare Kaied physically for the next stage of the season. It took place on the pitch at Cairo International Stadium after Zamalek had completed their second win over the Rwandan side.
Zamalek had also won the first leg in Rwanda by a 1-0 scoreline, giving them a 2-0 aggregate victory and confirming their progress to the group stage.
The result was Zamalek’s fourth 1-0 win of the current season. Ahmed Sherif scored the only goal of the match in the opening minute, giving his side an early lead which they held until the end.
Sherif has now scored for Zamalek in two successive matches for the second time. His first run of consecutive goals came against Abu Qir Fertilizers and Ghazl El Mahalla, while the latest sequence has been completed against Petrojet and the Rwandan Army.
The striker has made a goal contribution in six of his nine appearances this season. His total stands at four goals and two assists.
Zamalek’s previous appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage came in the 2022-2023 season. They were drawn alongside CR Belouizdad of Algeria, Al-Merrikh of Sudan and Esperance of Tunisia, but were eliminated in that stage.
