Lazio maintained their pursuit of Inter with a 2-1 victory over Parma in the eighth round of the Italian league season.
Kenneth Taylor opened the scoring shortly after half-time, before Diego Carlos doubled Lazio’s advantage with an own goal. Simone Lontani pulled one back for Parma in stoppage time, but Lazio held on to secure all three points.
The result gives Lazio a fourth consecutive victory in the Italian top flight. The capital club have now beaten Venezia, Monza, Juventus and Parma during that run.
Taylor put Lazio ahead five minutes after the interval with a shot from outside the penalty area. Eight minutes later, their lead was extended when Diego Carlos inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
Parma reduced the deficit in the fifth minute of added time. A cross struck the crossbar before ending up in the net, with Lontani credited with Parma’s only goal of the match.
Lazio managed to protect their advantage during the remaining moments and completed another league win.
The match also brought together two former Italy team-mates in the dugouts. Gennaro Gattuso is in charge of Lazio, while Alberto Gilardino manages Parma.
For Gilardino’s side, the defeat was their third in succession since he took charge. Parma had previously lost to Inter and Torino before being beaten by Lazio.
Lazio’s victory took them to 22 points and the top of the Italian league table. They are 3 points clear of second-placed Inter, who still have their eighth-round fixture against Fiorentina to play.
Parma remain on four points and occupy 19th place, one position above the bottom of the table.
