Zamalek fine Ahmed Fattouh, Mostafa El Zenary and Ahmed Sherif after late-night outing
Zamalek have imposed substantial financial penalties on Ahmed Fattouh, Mostafa El Zenary and Ahmed Sherif after the three players were found to have stayed out late following the club’s CAF Champions League match against Rwandan Army in Kigali.
A source at Zamalek told FilGoal.com that the players had “made a mistake by staying up late at one of the venues after Zamalek’s match against Rwandan Army in Kigali”.
The source added: “A substantial financial penalty has been imposed on them, along with a warning that they will be excluded from the team indefinitely if the behaviour is repeated. This took place in the presence of team captain Omar Gaber.”
Fattouh was also criticised by Zamalek supporters who attended the second leg against Rwandan Army.
Zamalek secured their place in the CAF Champions League group stage with a 1-0 victory in the return match. They had recorded the same score in the first leg in Rwanda, completing a 2-0 aggregate victory.
Ahmed Sherif scored the only goal of the second leg in the first minute.
The result was Zamalek’s fourth 1-0 victory of the current season.
It is the first time since the 2022-23 season that Zamalek have reached the CAF Champions League group stage. They were drawn alongside Algeria’s CR Belouizdad, Sudan’s Al-Merrikh and Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis that season, but were eliminated in the group stage.
