25 Kenyan coaches graduate from CAF B coaching course
Twenty-five Kenyan coaches have successfully completed the fifth edition of the CAF B coaching course, marking the culmination of an intensive four-month training program. The course aims to enhance the skills of coaches in advanced football methodologies, providing them with the tools needed to elevate the standard of the sport in the region.
Among the newly certified coaches is David Mbugua, the lead scout for AC Horsens in Kenya and Africa.
Mbugua, reflecting on his experience, highlighted the invaluable insights gained during the course.
“Through these four months, we have been educated on new methodologies that we’re ready to apply in our clubs and youth teams,” he stated.
Mbugua’s career in football has seen a notable transition from youth coaching to full-time scouting.
He explained how this shift has allowed him to make a broader impact on Kenyan football.
“As a youth coach, you have access to around 20 or 30 players at a time.
But as a scout, Kenya becomes your oyster.
I now have the chance to impact the lives of talented Kenyan players on a much larger scale,” he said.
The CAF B course, designed to develop advanced coaching competencies, has also reshaped Mbugua’s approach to scouting.
The training has given him a fresh perspective on how to identify and nurture talent effectively.
“Scouting is the first facet of coaching.
You have to select the right players, and with the knowledge from this course, I now look at players differently.
It has changed how I visualize and assess them,” Mbugua remarked.
He further emphasized how his new skills could influence not just the selection of players but also their development within teams.
“I can also influence coaches to play a player in a certain position where I see their potential being maximized,” he added.
Mbugua sees the course as a transformative experience that has equipped him with a “different lens” for talent evaluation.
This new outlook, he believes, will enable him to contribute more effectively to the growth of Kenyan football, both at the club level and within youth development.
The successful graduation of these 25 coaches is seen as a positive step for Kenyan football, as it brings a wealth of new knowledge and strategies into the country’s coaching ranks.
With advanced skills and a fresh perspective on player development, these coaches are now better equipped to drive progress in Kenyan football, fostering talent that can compete at higher levels on the continental stage.
