Nigeria forward Joy Omewa leaves Nottingham Forest Women

Nigeria forward Joy Omewa has officially left Nottingham Forest Women following the conclusion of her loan spell from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring.

Omewa, who is also a member of the Nigeria women’s national football team setup, spent the season on loan in England as part of her continued development, gaining valuable experience in a more physically demanding and highly competitive environment.

During her time with Nottingham Forest Women, Omewa featured regularly and was able to showcase her attacking qualities, contributing to the team’s forward play with energy, movement, and determination in the final third. Her performances were widely regarded as encouraging, particularly given the adaptation required when moving from Scandinavian football to the English women’s game.

Known for her pace, direct style, and strong work rate, Omewa quickly became a useful option in Forest’s attacking setup. Even in a relatively short spell, she demonstrated her ability to stretch defences and create opportunities, earning positive feedback from the coaching staff and supporters.

Although she did not spend multiple seasons at the club, her loan spell is seen as a productive step in her career progression, allowing her to test herself in a different tactical and physical setting while continuing to build experience at senior level.

Her parent club, Fortuna Hjørring, will now reassess her development path following her return, with the forward expected to rejoin their squad ahead of the new campaign unless further transfer decisions are made.

The departure was officially confirmed by Nottingham Forest Women through their communication channels as part of routine end-of-season squad updates, which included several player movements following the conclusion of the campaign.

For Omewa, the loan spell in England represents another important step in her growing career, adding to her international experience and strengthening her profile as she continues to develop as one of Nigeria’s promising attacking talents.

With her return to Denmark now complete, attention will turn to her next chapter, as both club and player consider the best pathway forward ahead of the upcoming season.
