Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has welcomed Kabelo Dlamini’s commitment as the midfielder works his way back from a lengthy injury absence.
The 30-year-old has resumed full training after being sidelined since November 2025, giving Pirates hope that one of their most creative players will soon be available again.
Dlamini has made 187 appearances for the Buccaneers, scoring 21 goals and providing 23 assists. His return could be particularly important following the departures of Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Ouaddou praised the midfielder’s approach in training when asked by iDiski Times about his progress.
“Dlamini is doing a great effort every day to come back and to be available for the team, I appreciate the spirit he is showing in training every day,” said Ouaddou.
“He’s important, so much creativity, can find passes not everyone can find in small spaces, quick decision-making, and in this area of the game we need players who can take decisions before receiving the ball.”
The coach also compared Dlamini’s ability to read the game before receiving possession with that of former France and Real Madrid midfielder Zinedine Zidane, while making clear that the two players have different physical qualities.
“I don’t want to compare him to Zinedine Zidane, not a quick player, but he knew what he wanted before receiving the ball,” Ouaddou added.
Dlamini’s availability would give Ouaddou another attacking and creative option as Pirates pursue their domestic ambitions while also competing in the CAF Champions League.
However, the midfielder is unlikely to be involved when Pirates face La Cure Waves on Saturday, with the club continuing to manage his return after several months out of action.
His recovery comes as Ouaddou looks to rebuild his midfield options following the departures of Mofokeng and Maswanganyi. Dlamini’s experience at Pirates, combined with his record of creating and scoring goals, could make him an important player once he is ready to return to competitive action.
