Zamalek vice-chairman Hisham Nasr taken ill, club issues health update

Zamalek have announced that vice-chairman Hisham Nasr has suffered a sudden health problem, with the club hierarchy expressing their support but withholding specific medical details.

In a statement released on Friday, the Cairo giants confirmed that Nasr, the deputy chairman of the board, had been taken ill in recent hours, prompting concern within the club.

Zamalek said the entire board, staff and sporting departments were united in wishing him a swift recovery, while stressing they were closely monitoring his condition.

“The Board of Directors of Zamalek SC, headed by Hussein Labib, along with all technical, administrative and sporting departments and every club employee, wishes a speedy recovery to Hisham Nasr, the vice-chairman of the board, after he suffered a health issue in recent hours,” the club statement read.

The club added that the board was in regular contact over Nasr’s health and looking forward to his swift return to his duties at the club, which is often referred to by supporters as “the White Castle”.

The statement continued: “The Board of Directors confirms its keenness to follow up on the health condition of Hisham Nasr and to check on him continuously, wishing him a full recovery and a quick return to resume his duties inside the White Castle.

“Zamalek SC also expresses its sincere wishes that God grants him a speedy recovery and that he returns to his family, his loved ones and the club’s fans in the best possible health.”

The club did not disclose the nature of the illness, nor did it indicate whether Nasr was being treated in hospital or at home, or how long he might be away from his responsibilities.

Recent role in African licence issues

Nasr has been a prominent figure in Zamalek’s boardroom in recent months, particularly over the club’s eligibility to compete in continental competition.

He had earlier revealed that all outstanding FIFA-related cases connected to the club’s African licence had been resolved, paving the way for Zamalek to participate in the CAF Champions League next season.

Those issues had been closely watched by supporters, with concerns that unresolved disputes could jeopardise the club’s chances of returning to Africa’s premier club competition.

Messages of support

Well-wishes for Nasr extended beyond the club’s official channels.

Zamalek have not indicated when they might provide a further update on Nasr’s condition, but reiterated in their statement that they would remain in constant contact and continue to check on his health.
