Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad to visit injured Asyut Petroleum striker Ahmed Khaled
Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad will travel to Alexandria on Wednesday to visit Asyut Petroleum striker Ahmed Khaled after the player suffered a serious leg injury during their Egyptian Premier League match.
Khaled came on as a substitute for Asyut Petroleum but was forced to leave the pitch after being hurt in a challenge with Awad.
The incident occurred during the teams’ seventh-round fixture, with Khaled sustaining a broken leg and torn ligaments. He was taken to a hospital in Borg El Arab, where doctors applied a splint.
The striker is due to undergo surgery in Asyut on Wednesday.
Awad’s visit is intended to offer support to Khaled and check on his condition following the injury.
According to FilGoal.com, the injury happened during a contested ball between Khaled and the Zamalek goalkeeper. Khaled was subsequently transferred to hospital for treatment before preparations began for the operation.
Zamalek secured their fifth league victory of the season by beating Asyut Petroleum, with Ahmed Sherif scoring the only goal of the match.
Sherif found the net in the 26th minute after a serious defensive error by Asyut Petroleum.
The result moved Zamalek to 16 points and third place in the Egyptian Premier League.
