Asyut Petroleum are preparing to file an official complaint against referee Hamada El-Qallawy over his decisions during their 1-0 defeat by Zamalek in the seventh round of the league.
The club is expected to submit the complaint on Wednesday, with its main grievance being the referee’s failure to award fouls against Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad during two incidents involving Asyut Petroleum players.
Asyut Petroleum believe El-Qallawy should have penalised Awad for handling the ball outside his penalty area. They also object to the goalkeeper’s challenge on forward Ahmed Khaled, which left the striker with a broken leg and torn ligaments.
Khaled was taken to a hospital in Borg El Arab after the incident, where his leg was placed in a cast. He is due to undergo surgery in Assiut on Wednesday.
The injury occurred during a challenge between Khaled and Awad, according to information obtained by FilGoal.com. Asyut Petroleum are seeking to have the referee’s handling of both incidents examined as part of their complaint.
Zamalek secured their fifth league victory of the season through Ahmed Sherif, who scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute.
Sherif struck after a serious defensive mistake by Asyut Petroleum, giving Zamalek a win that ended their run without victory in the league.
The result moved Zamalek on to 16 points, leaving them third in the table.
