Tottenham sign Savinho from Manchester City in reported £75m deal
Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City during the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting the deal could be worth more than £75m.
The 22-year-old successfully completed his medical before signing his contract with the London club. Tottenham have not disclosed the transfer fee, but the reported value would make Savinho one of the most significant additions to the squad.
Savinho will wear the number 17 shirt at Tottenham. He becomes one of the first major arrivals under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who played a decisive role in convincing the Brazil international to move to north London.
“Once I spoke to Roberto De Zerbi, I realised that I wanted to come to Tottenham,” Savinho told the club’s official website.
“He told me that he wants to help me reach the highest level possible, and I believe that together, as a team, we can achieve that.”
Savinho leaves Manchester City after spending two seasons at the club. During that period, he made 84 appearances and scored seven goals.
He joined City from Troyes after a loan spell with Girona. His move to Tottenham marks the next stage of his career after his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Tottenham continue talks for Omar Marmoush
Negotiations between Tottenham and Manchester City are also continuing over a possible deal for Omar Marmoush.
According to several reports, Tottenham are increasingly confident of completing the signing after reaching an agreement over the details of Savinho’s transfer. Talks for Marmoush are understood to be at an advanced stage, while personal terms were agreed earlier this week.
Marmoush, 27, started only eight Premier League matches last season. Across 36 appearances as a starter and substitute, he finished the campaign with eight goals.
Tottenham’s discussions over Marmoush come as the club continue to strengthen their attacking options. The agreement for Savinho has now been completed, while negotiations for Marmoush remain ongoing between the two clubs.
The club has yet to announce the financial terms of Savinho’s transfer, but the reported fee of more than £75m underlines the importance of the signing. The winger has also already spoken publicly about his desire to work with De Zerbi and develop further at Tottenham.
For Manchester City, Savinho’s departure brings an end to his two-season spell with the club. For Tottenham, his arrival provides a new attacking option and begins what could become a broader period of business involving players from the Premier League champions.
