Summerville agrees four-year Al Hilal deal after medical – report

Al Hilal are finalising the signing of West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville on a four-year contract, according to The Athletic.

The Saudi Pro League club are reported to have won the race for the Netherlands international after strong competition from Roma, who had submitted a €46m offer for the player.

The Athletic says Summerville has already signed his Al Hilal contract following a medical completed in Amsterdam, with the overall value of the deal understood to be €80m (£68m).

Summerville, 24, had been expected to leave West Ham during the current summer transfer window after the London club were relegated to the Championship.

The Dutch forward’s existing contract at West Ham was originally due to run until 2029, but Al Hilal’s move now appears set to bring his two-year stay in east London to an end.

Interest from Roma and Premier League clubs

Roma are reported to have pushed hard for Summerville’s signature, tabling a €46m bid as they sought to take him to Serie A.

Manchester United and Aston Villa also made enquiries over a possible deal for the Dutchman, but neither Premier League side progressed their interest into a formal offer at the level proposed by Roma or ultimately agreed by Al Hilal.

Al Hilal, one of Saudi Arabia’s most successful and ambitious clubs, have been active in the international market in recent windows as they look to strengthen their squad with high-profile European-based players.

World Cup campaign with the Netherlands

Summerville featured for the Netherlands at the most recent World Cup, making four appearances for the national team during the tournament.

He scored two goals and provided two assists across those four matches, enhancing his reputation on the international stage.

However, his campaign ended on a disappointing note as he missed a penalty in a shootout defeat against Morocco in the round of 32.

West Ham record and Leeds background

Summerville joined West Ham in 2024 from Leeds, moving within English football after impressing with his performances at Elland Road.

Since arriving at the London club, he has played 56 matches in all competitions. Last season he made 34 appearances across all tournaments, scoring seven goals and registering five assists.

Those contributions came in a campaign that ended with West Ham’s relegation, a development that left the winger widely expected to seek a move away from the club this summer.

Al Hilal have not yet made a formal announcement on the transfer, but The Athletic reports that only final details remain before the deal for Summerville is completed.
