Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with the Premier League club considering a move for the Germany international during the January transfer window.

According to reports from Teamtalk, Manchester United have made closer contact with the player’s representatives as they explore the possibility of signing the midfielder.

Liverpool are also monitoring Nmecha, adding to the competition for his signature as interest in the Borussia Dortmund player gathers momentum.

However, Dortmund are in a strong negotiating position because of the midfielder’s contract situation and the high transfer fee being discussed.

Dortmund demand hefty fee for Nmecha

Nmecha is reportedly under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2030, giving the German club considerable control over his future.

Reports indicate that an €80m release clause will only become active in the summer of 2027. Any club hoping to sign him before then could face a significantly higher price.

Dortmund are reportedly seeking between €90m and €100m if a club attempts to secure his departure as early as January.

Those figures could make a winter transfer difficult, particularly if the Bundesliga side are unwilling to negotiate below their valuation.

Liverpool and Manchester United compete for midfielder

Liverpool’s interest in Nmecha is reportedly linked to their pursuit of AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The Merseyside club are said to view the Dortmund player as an alternative should a move for Scott fail to materialise.

Manchester United, meanwhile, appear to be pursuing the German international more actively, according to the reports.

The growing interest from both Premier League clubs could increase speculation around Nmecha’s future as the winter transfer window approaches.

Dortmund remain in a strong position

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly taking the transfer speculation calmly, given Nmecha’s long-term contract and the substantial fee being demanded.

With the midfielder tied to the club until 2030, Dortmund have little immediate pressure to sell and can insist on their valuation.

Manchester United and Liverpool’s reported interest has yet to result in a confirmed agreement, leaving Nmecha’s future uncertain ahead of the January window.
