Sofyan Benjdida opened his Al Ahly account by scoring in the club’s Egypt Capital Cup match against Petrol Asyut.
The Moroccan striker put Al Ahly 2-0 ahead at Al Salam Stadium in the 33rd minute, finishing after receiving the ball from Hussein El Shahat inside the penalty area.
Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” had scored the opening goal for Al Ahly, who are facing Petrol Asyut in the first round of the competition.
The goal was Benjdida’s first for Al Ahly in his sixth appearance for the club. He then appeared to have scored again four minutes later after going through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, rounding him and finding the net.
However, the referee ruled out the effort for offside.
Benjdida has played five matches in the Egyptian Premier League this season and has provided two assists.
Al Ahly signed the striker from Maghreb Fes during the summer transfer window on a three-year contract.
Al Ahly and Petrol Asyut are both in Group C of the Egypt Capital Cup, alongside Al Mokawloon Al Arab, Al Sharqia, ENPPI and El Gouna.
