Egypt FA calls for unity around national team amid Hossam Hassan reports

The Egyptian Football Association has urged the country’s media and supporters to back the national team amid reports about the future of head coach Hossam Hassan’s staff.

The federation said the team’s interests and stability remained its highest priority, describing Egypt’s senior side as representatives of the country’s football and the ambitions of its supporters.

A statement from the Egyptian Football Association said: “The Egyptian Football Association stresses that the interests and stability of the senior national team are its top priorities, as it represents Egyptian football and the aspirations of its supporters.

“In light of the events that have recently taken place, the current period requires a high degree of responsibility, calm and solidarity, away from any escalation or emotional reaction that could affect the team’s focus and preparations for its upcoming commitments.

“The association appeals to all media outlets and Egyptian supporters to support the national team and rally around it, in a way that fulfils the aspirations of Egyptian football fans.”

Egypt are preparing to face Malawi in their third and fourth matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign this month.

Neither Hossam Hassan nor his twin brother Ibrahim Hassan will be present on the touchline for those fixtures. Both were suspended for three matches by FIFA following events during Egypt’s match against Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
