Ronaldo’s tally rises to 982 after Saudi league reviews disputed Al Nassr goal

Cristiano Ronaldo has been credited with Al Nassr’s second goal against Al Faisaly after the Roshn Saudi League completed a formal review of the disputed strike.

The decision was communicated personally to the Portugal forward before Al Nassr’s meeting with Al Kholood on Thursday, according to Saudi journalist Abdulaziz Al-Muraisel.

Al Nassr are hosting Al Kholood at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh in the 12th round of the Roshn Saudi League on 29 October 2026.

The goal under review came during Al Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al Faisaly last Friday at Al Majma’ah Sports City Stadium. Ronaldo scored in the 49th minute, heading a cross from a free-kick delivered by his compatriot Joao Felix.

Some social media users questioned the official attribution, arguing that the ball had gone into the net via an own goal by Al Faisaly defender Andre Girotto rather than through Ronaldo’s touch.

Al-Muraisel said the Saudi Pro League’s Compliance Committee had confirmed that the goal would remain registered in Ronaldo’s name. He said the committee had completed all the formal procedures required to establish who scored, including contacting the referee who officiated the Al Nassr-Al Faisaly match.

The ruling means Ronaldo’s career total now stands at 982 goals. The Portugal captain was also informed directly of the outcome, Al-Muraisel added.

The goal has particular significance because it leaves Ronaldo 18 goals short of reaching 1,000 in his career, a mark that would make him the first player in football history to achieve that total.

Al Nassr will now turn their attention to Al Kholood as they continue their Roshn Saudi League campaign, with Ronaldo’s officially recognised tally having been clarified before the match.
