Ousseynou Niang switches to Zulte Waregem after Union SG spell

Senegal midfielder Ousseynou Niang has joined Zulte Waregem from Union Saint-Gilloise, signing a contract with the Belgian club until 30 June 2028.

The 24-year-old, who plays on the left side of midfield, makes the move within Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League after two seasons with Union SG. Niang joined the Brussels club from Latvian side Riga on 4 September 2024, with Union paying €1.5m for his services.

Niang has already featured for Zulte Waregem during the opening stages of the 2026-27 campaign. He has made two appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, as well as two in Champions League qualifying and one in the Belgian Super Cup.

He arrives at Zulte Waregem after collecting several honours during his career. Niang was part of the Union SG side that won the Belgian championship in the 2024-25 season and helped the club claim the Belgian Cup in 2026. He also won the Belgian Super Cup with Union in the 2026-27 campaign.

Born in Ziguinchor, Niang began his senior career in Senegal with Diambars FC before moving to Latvia. He joined FK Auda in March 2022 and helped the club before switching to Riga at the start of 2023. His move to Riga was completed as a free transfer.

Niang is a right-footed midfielder and stands 1.68m tall. His arrival gives Zulte Waregem a player with experience of domestic football in both Belgium and Latvia, as well as European qualifying matches.

At Union SG, Niang was part of a squad that secured silverware in Belgium before leaving for another club in the same league. His new agreement keeps him at Zulte Waregem through the end of June 2028.

Niang’s transfer from Union Saint-Gilloise to Zulte Waregem was completed on 3 September 2026.
