Magesi FC and Highbury FC maintain perfect starts in Motsepe Foundation Championship

Magesi FC and Highbury FC both made it two wins from two at the start of the Motsepe Foundation Championship season, with Magesi FC moving level on points with the leaders after a 1-0 victory over The Bees on Saturday.

Nyakala Raphadu scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute, securing another important result for the Limpopo club.

The victory lifted Magesi FC into second place in the Championship table, level on points with Highbury FC, who remain at the top after their own narrow win.

Gomora United also opened their campaign with a victory, beating Venda Football Club 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Tiklas Thutlwa decided the match when he scored for the home team in the 30th minute.

Lerumo Lions recorded their first win of the season with a 2-0 success against newly promoted North West University. The result moved Lerumo Lions up to ninth in the table, while North West University are still waiting for their first victory.

University of Pretoria’s difficult beginning continued as they were beaten 2-0 by Midlands Wanderers. Both goals came in the first half, with Smizo Gazu and Ngiba finding the net for the visitors.

Upington City also picked up their first win of the campaign, coming from behind to defeat Real Native 2-1.

Real Native took the lead after six minutes through Lelethu Skelem, but Upington City responded after half-time. Palelo Mafuyeka and Visagie scored the goals that turned the match around.

Highbury make it two wins

Highbury FC continued their winning start with a 1-0 victory over Hope FC in the other listed fixture. Lonwabo Bayeni scored the only goal for the home side, who began the season with back-to-back wins.

The defeat was Hope FC’s first of the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.

Orbit College remain without a win after two matches following a goalless draw against Hungry Lions.

Although Orbit College did not claim victory, the hosts secured their first point of the season. Hungry Lions, meanwhile, have started the campaign with two successive draws.

The latest results leave Magesi FC and Highbury FC level on points at the top of the Championship table, while several sides are still seeking their first win after the opening rounds.
