Karim Adeyemi says winning Champions League ‘not my only goal’ after Barcelona move

Karim Adeyemi has pledged to justify Hansi Flick’s faith in signing him for Barcelona, insisting that lifting the Champions League is only one part of his wider ambitions at the club.

The 24-year-old Germany winger was unveiled as a new Barcelona player and underlined his determination to settle quickly, saying he is eager to prove he belongs at what he described as “the best club in the world”.

“The expectations are high, I am coming to the best club in the world, and I hope I can show the coach and the fans that I am a player worthy of Barcelona,” Adeyemi said at his presentation news conference.

Adeyemi made clear he is grateful to new head coach Flick for pushing to bring him in and stressed he is confident about building an understanding with highly rated team-mate Lamine Yamal.

He explained that he views his role at Barcelona in broader terms than simply chasing European glory, even though he recognises the importance of the competition.

“The Champions League, despite its huge importance, is not my only target with the Catalan team,” the Germany international said, when asked about his main objectives for the coming seasons.

Champions League key but not the sole focus

Adeyemi underlined that success in Europe forms just one part of what he hopes to achieve, emphasising that every fixture for Barcelona carries weight.

“Champions League is a very important competition, but it is not the only goal,” he added. “At Barcelona every match has its importance, and I will do my utmost to help win the Champions League and every title possible.”

The forward also stressed that he is prepared to adapt to whatever tactical role Flick assigns him in order to maximise the team’s chances of winning trophies.

He stated that his priority is contributing to victories rather than securing a specific place in the starting XI or a favoured position on the pitch.

Position not a concern for new signing

Adeyemi made it clear he has no preference over which flank he operates on, whether that means competing with Raphinha on the left side or featuring on the right.

He said his previous experience across the forward line means he is comfortable filling any attacking role that benefits the side.

“It doesn’t matter to me which position I play in, I have played in all the attacking positions,” Adeyemi concluded. “I am here just to help the team.”

The German’s comments underline both his respect for Barcelona’s status and his readiness to fit into Flick’s plans as he begins the next chapter of his career in Spain.
