Harry Kane has been named the world’s best striker after winning the Gerd Muller Trophy, adding another major honour to his Ballon d’Or triumph for 2026.
The Bayern Munich forward enjoyed an exceptional season, scoring 73 goals and providing eight assists for club and country. His contribution helped Bayern Munich win three trophies: the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup.
Kane’s latest award recognises his outstanding goalscoring record during a campaign in which he also captained England. It further underlines his status as one of the leading strikers in world football.
The award was previously won by Arsenal and Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony. This year, it has gone to Kane in recognition of his performances in front of goal across the season.
London is hosting the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday evening, with the event taking place in the English capital for the first time. Football’s leading individual awards are being presented at a ceremony attracting worldwide attention.
The ceremony is the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or awards, organised by France Football to honour the best players in the world for the 2025-26 season. The annual event recognises individual performances as well as the collective achievements of the game’s leading stars.
For the fifth time in the award’s history, players are being assessed on their performances over a football season rather than a calendar year. The period considered for this year’s awards runs from 3 August 2025 to 19 July 2026, allowing performances across all competitions during the campaign to be taken into account.
