Luis de la Fuente was named the world’s best coach at Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, after leading Spain to victory at the 2026 World Cup.
The Spain manager was selected ahead of four high-profile nominees: Luis Enrique of Paris Saint-Germain, Mikel Arteta of Arsenal, Unai Emery of Aston Villa and Vincent Kompany of Bayern Munich.
Spain’s triumph at the World Cup was the main factor behind De la Fuente’s success. He guided the national side to the title after a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final, played on 19 July.
The tournament ended with Spain unbeaten. Their defence conceded only one goal throughout the competition, underlining the team’s ability to combine defensive strength with effectiveness in decisive matches.
De la Fuente’s award came during a Ballon d’Or event held in the English capital, with his World Cup-winning campaign setting him apart from the other four coaches on the shortlist.
