Paris Saint-Germain moved back to the top of Ligue 1 after two second-half goals secured a 2-0 victory over Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Monday.
The result strengthened the champions’ position in the title race and extended their impressive run of form, although they had to wait until the final stages to break down their visitors.
Senny Mayulu opened the scoring in the 72nd minute before Mika Godts added a second 12 minutes later. The goals settled a closely contested match and gave Luis Enrique’s side an important home win in the eighth round of the French league season.
Paris Saint-Germain now have 17 points, one more than second-placed Rennes. Lyon remain fifth on 14 points, one behind Lille and Monaco, who occupy third and fourth place respectively.
The victory also underlined Paris Saint-Germain’s effectiveness after the interval. French statistics network Stats Foot reported that 13 of the club’s 16 Ligue 1 goals this season have been scored from the 60th minute onwards.
That record highlights a recurring feature of the team’s campaign: matches have often been decided in the closing stages, even when Paris Saint-Germain have had to remain patient for long periods.
The win was also their eighth successive victory in all competitions. It is the club’s best winning sequence since the period between January and March 2025, when they recorded 10 consecutive victories.
Lyon were unable to respond after conceding the opener and left Paris without adding to their points total. Their position in fifth place remains within reach of the leading group, but the gap to Paris Saint-Germain has now widened to three points.
