Glasner says Nottingham Forest’s energy would trouble any team after Manchester City win
Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner praised his players and supporters after their 3-1 victory over Manchester City, saying the atmosphere at the City Ground made them a difficult opponent for any side in the world.
Forest secured the Premier League win in the 10th round of the season, with the result leaving Manchester City facing a third consecutive league defeat.
“It was a good day to face Manchester City, but honestly, the energy within the team and inside the City Ground today was absolutely incredible,” Glasner told Sky Sports.
“It would have been difficult for any team in the world to play against us today.”
Forest made a strong start to the match and maintained their intensity after the break. Glasner said the performance was built on the collective effort of his squad.
“I saw a team fighting for each other today,” he said. “Every player left his heart on the pitch and, of course, after the early goal in the second half, we saw the quality and the pressing.”
He also highlighted the contribution of the home crowd and the club’s new players, particularly during the more demanding periods of the game.
“When things became difficult, our supporters were there to back us and give us support,” Glasner added. “The new players were there as well. We knew there would be moments when we would have to suffer.”
Liam Delap (2) and Jair scored for Nottingham Forest, while Rayan Cherki was Manchester City’s only scorer.
The defeat was Manchester City’s third in a row in the Premier League. They had previously lost to Aston Villa and Brighton before being beaten by Nottingham Forest.
Glasner said the result represented an important change in fortunes for his side, who had not been as effective during the rest of the season.
“I think everyone felt very happy, but also relieved,” he said. “Honestly, today was the opposite of what had happened throughout the rest of the season. We were extremely effective.”
“Our first two shots on target became two goals, and the players deserve that today. The way we performed should give us confidence.”
Manchester City’s position is now under threat from Brighton. If Brighton beat Brentford in the same round, they will replace Manchester City in the table.
The victory lifted Nottingham Forest to nine points and moved them into 16th place.
