Forward Brandon Thomas-Asante targets World Cup glory with Ghana
Ghana forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has set his sights on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the Black Stars are capable of going all the way as they prepare for their Round of 32 tie against Colombia.
The four-time African champions are making their fifth appearance at the tournament and have progressed beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010, setting up a knockout encounter at the Kansas City Stadium on Saturday.
The Coventry City striker said belief within the squad remains strong, despite doubts from outside.
“I want to win the tournament. We have this opportunity, and I don’t take it lightly,” the Coventry City striker told ESPN.
“I believe in my team. I believe that together, we can go as far as we want. I know a lot of people wrote us off early.
“A lot of people might laugh now, but all you can do is push for it, and we’ll see what happens.
“The overall feeling is that we want to go and win the game and make a statement for our fans back home. We want to make a new dawn of really going for it in tournaments and being the powerhouses that we know we are,” he added.
The 26-year-old played a key role in Ghana’s group-stage campaign, providing a late assist for Caleb Yirenkyi in the 1-0 win over Panama.
Kick-off for the match against Colombia is scheduled for 01:30 GMT.
