Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru leaves Anderlecht to continue career as a free agent

Ghana international Majeed Ashimeru has parted ways with Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old midfielder still had a contract until the end of the 2026/27 season but will now leave the Brussels-based club as a free agent.

Ashimeru joined Anderlecht from Austrian side RB Salzburg in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 129 appearances for the club in the famous purple and white.

However, his time at Anderlecht was significantly disrupted by injuries, which repeatedly kept him away from action.

The midfielder missed a total of 54 games because of various injuries suffered during his time with club and country, spending 308 days on the sidelines.

Those fitness struggles limited his opportunities and contributed to him falling out of Anderlecht’s plans in recent months.

The club confirmed that Ashimeru had not been getting enough playing time before reaching an agreement with the player to end his contract and allow him to pursue a new challenge.

He spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Belgian side La Louvière before returning to Anderlecht.

Ashimeru’s departure brings an end to a five-year spell with the club, during which he made more than 100 appearances despite his injury problems.

The former WAFA midfielder now has the opportunity to find a fresh start as he looks to put his fitness issues behind him.

Ashimeru has also represented Ghana at senior level and remains an experienced midfielder with considerable European experience.
