Denmark U21 coach Steffen Hojer has admitted concerns over selecting 17-year-old Manchester United striker Chido Obi for the national U21 squad.
The Danish youth international of Nigerian descent recently made his Man United senior debut and has since amassed three appearance for Ruben Amorim’s team.
This is Obi’s first call-up at this level, and while Hojer acknowledges his talent, he believes it may be too early for the youngster to join the squad.
“It’s actually too early, I would say,” Hojer told Bold. “Now I hope it’s not all about him. First, he is a very young man whom I would like to have brought into the team with some calmness.
“Second, he is extremely inexperienced at the senior level compared to the other players we have on the team. He has played very little senior football.
Despite his concerns, Hojer admits Obi’s performances at the youth level and his recent exposure at Manchester United have caught attention.
“Obviously, what Chido does is make him curious. He does so with what he has provided for the youth team and the catch-ups that have been given to Manchester United at the moment.”
Despite being capped at the youth level for Denmark, Chido Obi is still eligible to play for Nigeria as he already has a Nigerian passport.
