Celtic secured their first victory of this season’s Europa League with a 3-2 win over Besiktas in the fourth round of the league phase.
The Scottish side twice surrendered the lead before Camilo Duran struck again in the 86th minute to settle an entertaining contest.
Celtic’s goals came from Callum Osmand and Duran, who scored twice. Besiktas replied through Junior Olaitan and Orkun Kokcu.
The result gives Celtic their first three points of the competition and moves them up to 32nd place. Besiktas remain on seven points in eighth.
Egypt international Haitham Hassan came on in the 77th minute.
How the game unfolded
Besiktas took the lead in the 54th minute after Junior Olaitan missed a penalty, only for the Celtic goalkeeper to save the spot-kick. Olaitan reacted quickest to the rebound and finished into the net.
Celtic drew level eight minutes later when Callum Osmand produced a powerful strike from outside the penalty area that flew beyond the Besiktas goalkeeper.
The visitors then moved in front in the 78th minute. Victor Sydorchuk supplied the pass, allowing Duran to round the goalkeeper before placing the ball into the net.
Besiktas restored parity five minutes later through Kokcu, who matched Osmand’s effort with another powerful shot from outside the box that found the Celtic goal.
Celtic responded immediately. A minute after Besiktas had equalised, Duran scored his second goal of the night after a solo run through the Besiktas defence and past the goalkeeper, putting the ball into the net to complete Celtic’s comeback.
The victory was Celtic’s first in the Europa League this season and gave them their opening three points in the competition.
