Benfica beat AC Milan 2-0 at San Siro in Europa League opener

Benfica began their Europa League league-phase campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory away to AC Milan, with Dodi Lukebakio and Jakub Kaminski scoring the decisive goals at San Siro.

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute. After receiving the ball from Kaminski, Lukebakio cut inside before curling a shot towards the far post, leaving Mike Maignan unable to respond.

AC Milan had slightly more possession but lacked accuracy in the final third. The Italian side went into half-time trailing by one goal despite their greater control of the ball.

Christian Pulisic and Mario Gila were introduced after the break as AC Milan looked for a response. However, Benfica extended their advantage in the 53rd minute.

S. El Karouani provided the service, allowing Kaminski to meet the ball and make it 0-2. The goal gave Benfica further control of a match in which they remained well organised.

AC Milan pressed forward repeatedly in the closing stages, but the Rossoneri could not find a way through the Portuguese defence. Benfica held on to secure a 2-0 win and open their European campaign with victory.
