Yassin Tamer will miss Egypt Under-17’s World Cup campaign after suffering a fracture to the top of his foot during the team’s 5-0 win over Iraq.
A source from the Egypt youth team told FilGoal that the defender is expected to require between four and six weeks of treatment, ruling him out of the tournament in Qatar.
“Yassin Tamer will be absent from Egypt Under-17 during the World Cup after sustaining a fracture to the top of his foot in the match against Iraq,” the source said.
“The medical team, led by Amr Taha and Mohamed El-Shestawy, took the player to Aspetar Hospital in Qatar immediately after he was injured. The decision to rule him out of the World Cup was made after consultation with Mohamed Abou El-Ela, head of the Higher Medical Committee.”
The injury occurred 23 days before the start of the Under-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from 23 November to 13 December 2026.
Tamer was injured during Egypt’s emphatic victory over Iraq in the Gulf Cup Under-17 tournament. Egypt have won all four of their group matches and secured top spot with a perfect record.
They will face the runners-up from Group A in the semi-final on 1 November. The group contains United Arab Emirates, China, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar.
The Gulf Cup is serving as preparation for Egypt’s participation in the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Egypt’s win over Iraq included five goals and completed their unbeaten group-stage campaign, but Tamer’s injury means he will not be available for the side’s preparations or World Cup fixtures.
