Bayern Munich reached the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal with a 6-1 victory over Magdeburg, while Hertha Berlin progressed after a 2-0 win over Jeddeloh in the round of 32.

Assistant manager Armin Danks took charge of Bayern in the absence of head coach Vincent Kompany, who was in hospital after fainting during a training session.

The match was the second to be led by Danks, following Bayern’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Freiburg. Harry Kane was named among the substitutes after winning the Ballon d’Or and being recognised as the world’s best player on Sunday evening.

Before kick-off, Bayern’s players formed a guard of honour for Kane.

Michael Olise put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes before Ismael Saibari doubled their advantage in the 21st minute. Magdeburg responded through Matthias Zukowski four minutes later, leaving Bayern 2-1 ahead at half-time.

Olise scored his second goal in the 50th minute to restore Bayern’s two-goal cushion. Alphonso Davies added a fourth in the 70th minute, with Brown scoring three minutes later.

David Santos Daiber completed the scoring for Bayern in the third minute of added time.

Elsewhere in the competition, Bayer Leverkusen secured a 5-2 victory over Nuremberg. Schalke were knocked out at this stage after losing to Dynamo Dresden.

Hertha Berlin booked their place in the last 16 with a 2-0 win over Jeddeloh. Egypt midfielder Salim El Taaleb came on as a substitute in the 71st minute and helped his side complete the victory.

El Taaleb represented Egypt at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup under manager Osama Nabih.

Kaiserslautern also advanced after beating Hannover 2-0, while Stuttgart edged past Paderborn 1-0.
