Morocco’s U-17 women’s national team have been eliminated from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat to defending champions North Korea in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

The match, played at Pitch 2 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, saw the Asian side dominate from the opening stages to secure a convincing victory and advance to the quarter-finals.

North Korea took control early, scoring four goals before half-time to leave Morocco facing a difficult task after the break.

The defending champions continued their attacking display in the second half, adding two more goals to complete the 6-0 victory and end the hosts’ campaign.

North Korea continue title defence

North Korea entered the knockout stage in strong form after finishing top of Group B with nine points.

The defending champions carried that momentum into the encounter against Morocco, showcasing their attacking quality and maintaining control throughout the match.

Their emphatic victory secured a place in the quarter-finals as they continue their bid to retain the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title.

Morocco’s campaign comes to an end

Morocco reached the Round of 16 after qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.

The Atlas Lionesses secured their place in the knockout rounds after a challenging Group A campaign that included victories over New Zealand and Argentina.

Progression to the last 16 gave the young Moroccan players an opportunity to continue their run in front of home supporters and gain valuable experience on the international stage.

However, their hopes of advancing further were ended by a dominant North Korean side.

Despite the disappointing result, Morocco will look to build on the experience gained from competing against some of the world’s leading youth teams as they continue their development.
