Al-Ain bring in Tunisian-French playmaker Fedi Ben Choug on free transfer

Tunisia and France midfielder Fedi Ben Choug has joined Al-Ain from ES Sahel on a free transfer. The 31-year-old attacking midfielder completed the move on 3 September 2026, beginning a new chapter after two years with the Tunisian club.

Ben Choug arrives at Al-Ain following a spell in which he represented ES Sahel after joining from Kazakhstan side FC Turan in August 2024, also without a transfer fee. His move to Saudi Arabia is the latest step in a career that has taken him across Tunisia, Morocco and Kazakhstan, as well as through the French football system.

The Paris-born player began his senior career with Aubervilliers before moving to CS Sfaxien in 2015. He later played for CA Bizertin and Esperance Tunis, where he won three Tunisian league titles in successive seasons from 2019-20 to 2021-22. He also collected two Tunisian Super Cup winners’ medals with Esperance, in 2020 and 2022.

Ben Choug’s career record includes 130 Ligue 1 appearances, seven goals and 15 assists. He has also featured in the Botola Pro Inwi, the Tunisian Cup, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. In continental competition, he scored twice in six CAF Champions League appearances and once in four Confederation Cup matches.

A left-footed midfielder standing 1.89m tall, Ben Choug has primarily operated in an attacking midfield role. His previous clubs also include Hassania and FC Turan, with the move to Al-Ain extending a sequence of transfers completed without a fee since his departure from Stade Tunisien in 2016.

The transfer adds an experienced midfielder to Al-Ain’s squad, with Ben Choug bringing a record of domestic success from his time at Esperance and more than a decade of senior football behind him. He has now officially joined Al-Ain from ES Sahel as a free agent.
