African football news: Akintola joins Omonia Nicosia as Rennes sign Bopaka

Omonia Nicosia have completed the signing of Nigerian winger David Akintola from Hull City on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old right winger was confirmed as a new Omonia player on the club’s Instagram account. Akintola, who has previously played for FC Midtjylland and Hatayspor, is valued at €1m.

His move was one of several developments involving African players reported on 10 September 2026.

At Stade Rennais, Democratic Republic of Congo Under-23 goalkeeper Yohann Bopaka has signed his first professional contract.

Bopaka, who was born in 2006, joined the French club as a free agent from FC Basel’s reserve team. The 19-year-old will initially play for Stade Rennais’ reserve side, with the club aiming to provide the right environment for his development.

The agreement was reported by SRFC_Mercato.

Elsewhere, Valenciennes FC have announced that Ivorian winger Christ Zohore will join the club officially next January.

Zohore, 17, comes from Max United’s academy in Abidjan, which was founded by Max-Alain Gradel. He spent time with the French club this summer and impressed Valenciennes’ senior figures.

He will join VAFC when he reaches majority, as part of a new partnership between the two clubs. Valenciennes confirmed the agreement in a statement published on its website.
