Momen Soliman emerges as contender for Ceramica Cleopatra job

Momen Soliman has emerged as a candidate to replace Ali Maher as manager of Ceramica Cleopatra, but the Egyptian club must first secure permission from his current employers, Iraqi side Al-Karma.

Maher was recently appointed as the new manager of Egypt, replacing Hossam Hassan. Ceramica Cleopatra are now preparing to appoint his successor and are expected to announce their new manager within the next few hours.

Soliman, who currently leads Al-Karma, is understood to be among the club’s preferred options. However, any agreement will depend on Al-Karma approving his departure.

Mohamed El-Sheikh, the former Wadi Degla manager, is also among the candidates being considered for the Ceramica Cleopatra role. He had previously been reported as a possible replacement for Maher following the latter’s move to take charge of the Egypt national team.

Soliman is currently guiding Al-Karma at the top of the Iraqi league table.

The coach has also won three Iraqi league titles during spells with Police and Air Force. In Egypt, he has managed Smouha and Misr Lel Makkasa, while he also led Zamalek to the Egyptian Cup title.

Soliman came close to winning the CAF Champions League in 2016, but Zamalek lost the final to Sundowns 3-1 on aggregate.
