Hossam Hassan set to leave Egypt job, says Ibrahim Fayek

Hossam Hassan will no longer be manager of the Egypt national team, with a formal announcement expected on the evening of 13 November 2026, according to media presenter Ibrahim Fayek.

Fayek announced the development in a post on his official Facebook page, writing: “It is over. The decision has already been made and it will be announced tonight. Hossam Hassan will not be the manager of the Egypt national team.”

The reported decision comes amid growing tension surrounding Egypt’s coaching staff. The Egyptian Football Association recently issued a statement calling on the media and supporters to remain calm and avoid escalation.

The governing body said the national team’s interests and stability remained its highest priorities, adding that the current period required unity and a sense of responsibility.

The statement followed a decision by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation to ban Hassan from appearing in the media. The ban was imposed after issues that caused controversy outside the sporting sphere.

Egypt had been expected to face Malawi home and away in qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with the current coaching staff still in charge. Hassan’s future had been due to be decided after the training camp, while Hossam El Badry and Ali Maher had been identified as potential successors.

There was reported anger within the Egyptian Football Association after news of Hassan’s expected departure was leaked to the media before an official announcement. The prevailing view had reportedly been to delay a decision on his position until after the next two matches.

Pressure on Hassan had increased since the October international break, following a disagreement with Egypt captain Mohamed Salah. According to media reports, Salah left the camp angry before Hany Abu Rida travelled to visit him in Turkey in an attempt to resolve the dispute.

Hassan will also serve a three-match suspension imposed by FIFA. As a result, he would not have been permitted to lead Egypt from the technical area during either match against Malawi and would instead have had to watch from the stands.

The two fixtures were scheduled as part of Egypt’s qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with the first listed for 13 November 2026.
