Referees’ committee backs key decisions from Egyptian Premier League rounds six and seven

The Egyptian Football Association’s referees’ committee has upheld referee Hamada El-Qallawy’s decision not to award a foul against Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad during his side’s match against Petrol Asyut.

The committee published a video reviewing refereeing incidents from matches played in the sixth and seventh rounds of the Egyptian Premier League.

However, it did not assess the decisions from the sixth-round match between Zamalek and Al Ahly, which was refereed by Slovenian official Rade Obrenovic.

The committee ruled that there was no foul against Awad after he collided with Petrol Asyut player Ahmed Gaber. It also agreed that the goalkeeper should not have been shown a red card and that there was no handball offence.

Its explanation was that Awad had successfully played the ball without making any additional movement with his hand.

The committee also backed El-Qallawy’s decision to withdraw the red card initially shown to Petrol Asyut player Ibrahim Abbas following his collision with Zamalek forward Ahmed Sherif.

It further agreed with the referee’s decision not to award a penalty during Modern Sport’s match against Enppi.

The committee also confirmed the validity of the red card shown to Wadi Degla player Mohamed Abdel-Aty in his team’s match against Montakhab El-Suez Petrojet.

Al Ahly’s goal against Al Qanah was also judged to be valid because the ball had fully crossed the goal line.

There was one decision from which the committee disagreed with the match official.

In Pyramids’ game against Ceramica Cleopatra, referee Amin Omar showed a red card to Ceramica’s Ghanaian defender Justice Arthur. The committee said the player should have received only a yellow card.

The officials did, however, support the decision to dismiss Khaled Satouhy after he fouled National Bank of Egypt forward Mostafa Shalaby.

The review covered the selected incidents from the sixth and seventh rounds, while the Zamalek-Al Ahly fixture was left out of the committee’s analysis because it had been officiated by the Slovenian referee.
