Trezeguet set for Egypt return ahead of qualifiers

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has decided to recall Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet to the national team squad for the upcoming November international break after the winger recovered from a hamstring injury.

The Al-Riyadh forward missed Egypt’s October camp after sustaining the injury, but his return to fitness has reportedly paved the way for his inclusion in the Pharaohs’ squad for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to Egyptian outlet Batolat, Hassan has settled on bringing the experienced attacker back into the national team setup as Egypt prepare for their next qualifying assignments.

Trezeguet suffered a hamstring tear while playing for Al-Riyadh against Al-Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League last September. The injury forced him to spend approximately four weeks on the sidelines, disrupting his club and international commitments.

His absence ruled him out of Egypt’s October preparations, while the winger had also missed the September national team camp, which featured AFCON qualifying matches against Angola and South Sudan, alongside a friendly encounter against South Africa.

The 31-year-old’s anticipated return will provide Hassan with another attacking option as the Pharaohs look to maintain their momentum in the race to qualify for the 2027 continental showpiece.

Trezeguet has been an established member of the Egyptian national team in recent years, bringing international experience and attacking quality to the squad. His ability to operate across the attacking line could prove valuable as Egypt prepare for two important fixtures.

The Pharaohs are scheduled to face Malawi on November 13 and 17 in the third and fourth rounds of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

With the two matches approaching, Hassan will be keen to have his experienced players available as Egypt seek to strengthen their position in the qualifying campaign.

Trezeguet’s expected recall marks a positive development following his injury setback, although his final participation will depend on his fitness and availability when the squad assembles for the November camp.
