Maritimo bring in Congolese-French striker Mons Bassouamina from Pafos

Mons Bassouamina has swapped Cyprus for Portugal, with the Congolese-French centre-forward joining Maritimo from Pafos.

The 28-year-old has signed a contract with the Liga Portugal club running until 30 June 2027. The move was completed on 3 September 2026.

Bassouamina arrives after one season with Pafos, having joined the Cypriot club from Clermont Foot in July 2025. He had not made an appearance for Pafos in the Cyprus League or in the club’s European qualifying campaigns this season before moving to Maritimo.

The striker began his senior club career with AS Nancy after progressing from the club’s under-19 side to its reserve team. He later spent time on loan at US Boulogne before joining AS Nancy permanently, and subsequently moved through Bastia-Borgo and Pau FC.

Bassouamina joined Clermont Foot from Pau FC in July 2024 before switching to Pafos the following year. His latest transfer represents a return to France’s neighbouring football market, with Maritimo competing in Portugal’s top flight.

Born in Gonesse, France, Bassouamina represents the Congo internationally. He is listed as a centre-forward and stands 1.72m tall, with his right foot recorded as his preferred foot.

Maritimo have completed Bassouamina’s move from Pafos, with the forward contracted to the Portuguese club until June 2027.
