Liverpool make Ismaïla Sarr priority as Ibrahim Mbaye price proves too high

Liverpool are considering a move for either Senegal forwards Ismaïla Sarr or Ibrahim Mbaye this summer, with the two players competing for what appears to be a single place in the club’s attacking plans.

The Reds have already strengthened their forward options with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Federico Chiesa, Victor Muñoz and Rio Ngumoha. They are also close to completing a deal for Bradley Barcola, with the transfer expected to be officially announced imminently for a fee of €140 million including bonuses.

Despite that depth in attack, Liverpool continue to show interest in both Mbaye, who plays for Paris St-Germain, and Crystal Palace forward Sarr.

Neither player featured for his respective club in recent matches, further fuelling speculation that both could be heading towards the exit.

Mbaye, an 18-year-old striker who has been a long-standing Liverpool target, has already agreed a five-year contract with the club, according to the information provided.

Sarr, meanwhile, had been expected to move to Galatasaray after reaching a personal agreement with the Turkish club. However, discussions between Galatasaray and Crystal Palace have stalled, opening the door for Liverpool to enter the negotiations.

Liverpool have subsequently made Sarr their priority, at least temporarily putting their interest in Mbaye to one side.

The reported valuation of Mbaye has also influenced Liverpool’s thinking. PSG are seeking €70 million for the young forward, a figure considered too expensive by Liverpool according to WilsconCox.

That leaves Sarr and Mbaye competing for a potential move to Anfield, with Liverpool seemingly prepared to choose between the two Senegalese players rather than bring both to the club during the same transfer window.

The situation could still change as negotiations continue and Liverpool assess their options.

Should neither Sarr nor Mbaye arrive, Liverpool have another target in reserve. Their alternative is Gambian striker Yankuba Minteh of Brighton.

Brighton have already rejected two Liverpool offers for Minteh, worth €60 million and €70 million respectively.

The Seagulls are demanding €80 million for the 22-year-old forward, meaning Liverpool would have to increase their offer if they decide to pursue the Gambian as their alternative option.

For now, the focus remains on Sarr and Mbaye, with Liverpool weighing up which of the two Senegalese forwards should fill the remaining attacking opportunity at Anfield.
