Riyad Mahrez linked with Atletico move after becoming a free agent

Riyad Mahrez, the Algerian-French winger currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Atletico in La Liga.

The 35-year-old right winger left Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli on 4 July 2026 and is now being linked with a move to Spain. No transfer has been confirmed, and there is no reported probability attached to the rumour.

Mahrez joined Al-Ahli from Manchester City in July 2023 for €35m and helped the Saudi club win the AFC Champions League in both 2024-25 and 2025-26. He also won the Saudi Super Cup in 2025-26.

His most recent recorded international performances came at the 2026 World Cup, where he made four appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Mahrez started 75% of Algeria’s possible matches and played 73% of the available minutes.

The former Leicester City and Manchester City player has scored 82 goals and supplied 63 assists in 284 Premier League appearances. He won the Champions League and five Premier League titles during his time with Manchester City, and was named Premier League Player of the Year after Leicester’s title-winning 2015-16 campaign.

Mahrez’s current market value is listed at €3.5m. He remains without a club as Atletico are named as a possible destination.
