Bryan Zaragoza to join Espanyol permanently from Bayern Munich after three loan spells

Espanyol have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign Spanish winger Bryan Zaragoza, with the deal set to become permanent in June 2027, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Zaragoza will initially move to the Catalan club on loan, but the agreement includes an obligatory purchase clause worth €8m. That means Espanyol are committed to completing the transfer permanently at the end of the loan period.

The 24-year-old is leaving Bayern Munich after struggling to establish himself in the German club’s first team. Since joining Bayern in 2024, Zaragoza has made only seven appearances for the club and has spent periods away on loan in Spain and Italy.

His move to Espanyol will be the winger’s fourth loan spell since arriving at Bayern. He has previously played for Osasuna, Celta Vigo and Roma during temporary spells away from the Bundesliga side.

Zaragoza is hoping to revive his career at Espanyol and rediscover the form that made him stand out in Spanish football. He chose the Barcelona-based club despite receiving offers from other teams in Spain and from clubs outside the country.

The winger spent the first half of last season on loan at Celta Vigo before moving to Roma for the second half of the campaign. He made six appearances for the Italian club, providing one assist and failing to score.

His time at Bayern has therefore been marked by limited opportunities and repeated loans, with the player unable to secure a regular place in the team since completing his move in 2024.

The agreement with Espanyol provides Zaragoza with another opportunity to return to consistent first-team football in La Liga. It also gives Bayern Munich a clear route to ending his time at the club permanently, with the €8m purchase clause to be activated as part of the arrangement in June 2027.

Espanyol’s deal for the winger was concluded after negotiations with Bayern Munich were settled in the closing hours, according to Romano. The move is expected to see Zaragoza continue his career in Spain, where he will aim to regain his best level after loan spells with Osasuna, Celta Vigo and Roma.
