Ahmed Abou Treika scores as Al Markhiya open Qatar Second Division campaign with victory

Ahmed Abou Treika scored his first goal of the new season as Al Markhiya began their Qatar Second Division campaign with a 3-0 win over Al Khor.

The 30th-minute strike was Al Markhiya’s opening goal of the match, with Abou Treika finishing impressively after breaking clear of the Al Khor defence.

The forward went through one-on-one with the goalkeeper before lifting the ball over him and into the net, giving Al Markhiya the lead in the first round of the competition.

Al Markhiya went on to complete a convincing victory, scoring twice more to secure all three points without conceding.

The goal marks the beginning of Abou Treika’s scoring record for the new Qatar Second Division season. It also adds to his previous contribution for Al Markhiya, having already represented the club in 41 matches before this campaign.

In those earlier appearances, he had scored once and provided five assists.

Abou Treika is the son of Mohamed Abou Treika, the former Egypt international and Al Ahly forward. Mohamed Abou Treika is widely associated with both the Egypt national team and Al Ahly, while his son continues his career in Qatar with Al Markhiya.

The victory gives Al Markhiya a strong start to the new second-tier campaign, while Abou Treika’s goal provided the early breakthrough against Al Khor.

His finish came after half an hour, when he found space behind the Al Khor defence and advanced towards goal without a defender able to prevent the opportunity. Rather than attempting to shoot directly past the goalkeeper, Abou Treika lifted the ball over him with a controlled finish.

That goal established Al Markhiya’s advantage and set the platform for the rest of the match. The club subsequently added two further goals to complete a 3-0 result in the opening round of the Qatar Second Division.

For Abou Treika, the match brought an early personal milestone in the new season. Having recorded one goal and five assists across his first 41 matches for Al Markhiya, he has now opened his account for the current campaign with a goal that helped his side claim a comprehensive win.

Al Markhiya’s success over Al Khor means the club begin their league programme with three goals scored and none conceded. Abou Treika’s contribution was central to that result, with his 30th-minute finish putting the side ahead before the two later goals confirmed the victory.
