Egypt set to confirm Hossam Hassan contract extension within days
The Egyptian Football Association is expected to announce within days that Hossam Hassan has signed a new contract as manager of the Egypt national team.
A source at the Egyptian Football Association told FilGoal.com: “The matter has been settled. The renewal of the Egypt national team staff will be announced within days.”
The proposed extension is expected to keep Hassan in charge through the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Hany Abo Rida had previously formed a committee to discuss the terms of new contracts for Hassan and his twin brother Ibrahim Hassan, who is the national team director.
Hossam Hassan was appointed Egypt manager in February 2024 and began his tenure with a match against New Zealand in March that year.
Since taking charge, Hassan has led Egypt in 35 matches, recording 19 wins, 10 draws and five defeats.
A separate source at the Egyptian Football Association previously told FilGoal.com: “Hossam Hassan has not requested any changes to the national team coaching staff.”
The source added: “There is an intention to keep the same staff.”
Hassan’s current coaching team includes Ibrahim Hassan as national team director, Tarek Soliman as assistant manager, Mohamed Abdel Wahed as coach and Sefean El-Saghir as goalkeeper coach.
Dr Mohamed Abou El-Ela heads the medical department, while Waleed Badr is the team’s administrative director.
Hassan guided Egypt to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first time the country has reached that stage in its history. He also led the team to fourth place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Egypt will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with two matches in September.
They will face Angola at 22:00 local time on 25 September at Cairo International Stadium in their opening qualifying fixture. Four days later, on 29 September, Egypt will play South Sudan in Juba at 15:00 Cairo time.
Egypt are in Group B alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi.
The Egyptian Football Association is also considering arranging a friendly match in September against one of Tanzania, Ghana or Rwanda.
The planned contract renewal would represent continued backing for Hassan after a period in which Egypt have secured a historic World Cup achievement and a top-four finish at the continental tournament. The association’s expected announcement will also confirm whether the existing technical and administrative structure remains unchanged through the next stage of Egypt’s international programme.
