Tolu Arokodare ready to rewrite his story at Ajax after Wolves struggles
Tolu Arokodare is determined to make the most of his fresh start at Ajax after a frustrating spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Nigeria international joined the Dutch giants on a season-long loan from Wolves last month, hoping to revive his form and regain the confidence that made him a sought-after striker in Europe.
Arokodare endured a difficult campaign following his move from Belgian side KRC Genk, managing just six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions last season. The return fell well short of expectations, but the 25-year-old is refusing to dwell on his struggles in England.
Instead, Arokodare has drawn a line under the experience and shifted his attention towards establishing himself at Ajax, where he sees an opportunity to rebuild his momentum.
“I don’t think there’s a real reason or there’s a real excuse,” Arokodare told ESPN. “I think it’s part of the game.
Arokodare refuses to dwell on Wolves disappointment
The striker believes difficult periods are an inevitable part of a footballer’s career and sees his Wolves experience as a lesson rather than something to carry into his new challenge.
“As players, we have seasons and moments like this in our careers, and it’s something to learn from, that I’ve moved on from, and I’m focused on the new season.”
Arokodare’s arrival at Ajax offers him the chance to work his way back into top form in a familiar environment, having previously made his name in Belgian football before earning a move to the Premier League.
Rather than allowing last season’s struggles to define him, he insists his priority is improving his game and making a meaningful contribution to his new club.
Ajax switch gives striker chance to reset
Arokodare says he has already immersed himself in preparations with his new teammates and is determined to ensure the lessons from his Wolves spell translate into better performances in Amsterdam.
“I’ve been preparing well with the Ajax team and the players and I’m focused on this season. I’m focused on getting better, focused on better things for myself.”
The Nigerian also acknowledged the need to avoid repeating the mistakes that hampered his progress last season as he looks to establish himself as an important figure for Ajax.
“Focused on not making the same mistakes I did. That’s all I’m focused on. Not focused on last season.”
With his Wolves chapter now behind him, Arokodare will hope his loan move to Ajax provides the platform to rediscover his scoring touch and demonstrate the qualities that earned him a move to the Premier League in the first place.
