Jamal Musiala’s latest on-field scare puts Bayern Munich on alert

Bayern Munich are facing renewed concern over Jamal Musiala’s health after the Germany international collapsed during a friendly against Heidenheim, just three days after a similar incident in the club’s previous match.

Musiala went down suddenly in the 66th minute, with the score level at 2-2. His Bayern Munich team-mates quickly gathered around him on the pitch, creating an anxious scene that closely resembled the events of the previous weekend.

The forward was substituted immediately as a precaution. He regained consciousness quickly, as he had during the earlier incident, and was able to walk off the pitch under his own power before making his way to the dressing room.

The latest episode was reported by Sky Sports and has revived concerns within the Bavarian club about the condition of one of its most important young players.

Musiala had also collapsed during Bayern Munich’s friendly victory over Leipzig three days earlier. Bayern won that match 3-1, but the closing stages were overshadowed by the player falling suddenly after scoring.

That incident prompted a period of anxiety around the club before Bayern Munich issued reassuring medical information. The first collapse was followed by initial examinations which, according to the club, did not identify any serious health problem.

Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s executive board member for sport, said after the earlier episode that Musiala was doing well. He explained that the player had lost consciousness because of heat exhaustion and dehydration.

The match had been played in particularly high temperatures, with conditions reaching close to 33C. Eberl’s comments provided reassurance at the time, but Musiala’s second collapse in a short period has brought the issue back into focus.

The circumstances of the latest incident were similar to those of the first: Musiala suddenly dropped to the ground, was surrounded by his team-mates and was then removed from the game. He was, however, able to leave the pitch on foot after recovering.

Bayern’s immediate decision to take him off was made with his safety in mind. No further medical findings have been provided in the information about the Heidenheim match.

The repeat nature of the incident is likely to prompt renewed attention around Musiala’s condition, particularly after the club had previously attributed his first collapse to the combination of heat, physical exertion and dehydration.

For Bayern Munich, the priority remains the wellbeing of Musiala, whose latest spell on the pitch ended prematurely after another unsettling moment during pre-season action.
