Hector Fort future to be settled as Barcelona weigh €10m sale

Barcelona have told Hector Fort he is no longer part of their plans for the new season and are prepared to sanction a permanent transfer, with Real Sociedad among the clubs interested in the young defender.

The Catalan club are seeking around €10m for the Spain international, meaning any side hoping to sign him is expected to submit an offer close to that figure. Barcelona’s decision reflects their wider effort to reshape the squad before the transfer window closes.

Fort has attracted attention from several clubs in Spain and abroad. Everton, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund had previously made enquiries about the defender’s situation, while Real Sociedad have now joined the race for his signature.

Real Sociedad’s interest is understood to have been strengthened by the positive reports they gathered during Fort’s loan spell at Elche. The Spanish club are assessing whether he could become part of their sporting project, with the player’s future expected to be decided in the coming days.

Fort will not take part in Barcelona’s preparations again. His priority is understood to be finding a club where he has a greater opportunity to play regularly, rather than simply securing a move away from Camp Nou.

Elche had wanted to keep the defender, but that option now appears unlikely. Barcelona do not want to send Fort out on another loan and instead prefer to complete a permanent sale.

That stance is part of a broader plan to generate additional income and create more room within the wage bill for the registration of new players. Fort’s situation, alongside that of Marc Casado, is regarded as one of the most important matters Barcelona need to resolve before the transfer market closes.

The club are therefore waiting for interested teams to decide whether they are willing to meet a valuation of approximately €10m. Real Sociedad’s interest gives Fort another option in Spain, while Everton, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund remain among the clubs previously linked with his situation.

Barcelona’s willingness to allow Fort to leave represents a clear change in his position within the squad. The club have made it known that they do not see another temporary move as the solution and are now looking for a transfer that will provide both a sporting outcome for the player and financial benefit for Barcelona.

With the deadline approaching, Fort’s next destination is expected to be confirmed soon. The key issue will be whether one of his suitors can offer a permanent deal close to Barcelona’s asking price, while also providing the playing opportunities the defender is seeking.
