Ismaily settle Firas Chaouat case as one registration ban remains
Ismaily have reached a settlement with Tunisian forward Firas Chaouat, resolving one of the financial and legal cases that has placed pressure on the Egyptian club.
The total amount claimed in fines and interest was $425,692 (£316,000), according to the club. After extensive negotiations, Ismaily’s appointed committee agreed a final settlement with Chaouat.
The player did not agree to waive any part of the money owed to him.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ismaily paid $255,692 immediately. A further payment of $85,000 is due at the end of October, with an identical instalment scheduled for the end of January.
The committee said the arrangement would reduce the club’s immediate financial burden while bringing one of the outstanding commitments to a definitive conclusion.
Procedures have also begun to remove the case from the website of world football’s governing body, FIFA, in preparation for the file being formally closed.
The appointed committee said dealing with legal cases and financial obligations remained its main priority. It added that work would continue on the club’s other outstanding files, with the aim of lifting the sanctions and restrictions that have weighed on Ismaily in recent years.
The committee believes resolving those matters will help the club regain financial and legal stability.
Ismaily now have one registration-ban case remaining before they can sign new players.
The club were relegated to the Professional League last season after finishing second from bottom in the Egyptian Premier League table.
They are preparing to face Masar in the opening round of the Professional League.
