Pape Thiaw’s Senegal departure could leave football federation facing €1.28m compensation claim

Former Senegal manager Pape Thiaw could seek more than €1.28m from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) following his dismissal, according to local media reports.

SeneNews reports that Thiaw, 45, may demand a further 420m CFA francs (£550,000; €640,286), including 240m CFA francs (€365,878) in contract termination compensation.

That potential claim would be in addition to 423.8m CFA francs (about €647,000) that the former coach is already seeking from the FSF over unpaid salaries and bonuses.

If the claims are upheld, the federation could face a total liability of 843.8m CFA francs more than €1.28m.

Thiaw was officially dismissed on 11 July after Senegal’s disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign, which ended with elimination in the last 32.

The former Senegal international had secured a contract extension just days earlier after lengthy negotiations. His new deal was due to run until the end of February 2029 and included a monthly salary increase of 30m CFA francs, equivalent to about €45,735.

That figure was reportedly 5m to 10m CFA francs below the salary expected by his potential successor, former France midfielder Patrick Vieira.

Thiaw’s reported claims could further increase pressure on the FSF, which has already been formally ordered to settle the outstanding payments.
