Salim Diakite makes Zulte Waregem switch from Palermo

Malian-French right-back Salim Diakite has joined Belgian club Zulte Waregem from Palermo on loan, completing a move that takes the 26-year-old from Italy’s Serie B to the Jupiler Pro League.

Diakite changes clubs on 17 August 2026 after leaving Palermo, where he had been playing in Italy’s second tier. The transfer is recorded as a loan move, with no monetary fee attached to the deal.

The defender’s arrival adds a right-back to Zulte Waregem’s squad as the club prepares for competition in Belgium’s top flight. Diakite’s position is his established role, and his move brings experience from a senior league in Italy to a new domestic competition.

Born with Malian and French nationality, Diakite now begins a new chapter in Belgium at the age of 26. His switch also marks a change in the football environment around him, from Palermo’s Serie B campaign to Zulte Waregem’s Jupiler Pro League programme.

Palermo and Zulte Waregem operate in different divisions and countries, making the transfer a clear change of setting for the full-back. The move allows Diakite to continue his career outside Italy while remaining involved in senior professional football.

Zulte Waregem have secured Diakite’s services on loan, and the completed transfer was registered on 17 August 2026.
